Richard Neutra

The Kaufmann House

Richard Nuetra was a legendary architect who worked mostly in California from the 1920’s until his death in the 1970’s. His style and approach has inspired much of what Xeno Design is and does and how I, as a designer, approach my projects. Neutra was unlike many architects, he would actually put great weight upon the needs of the client rather than force his own style. He used detailed questionnaires to find out what those needs were.

This is a major trait that I took away from him. Giving preference to user needs, usability, and business goals over design and style isn’t always easy, especially for a designer, but it’s usually the right direction. Thank you, Mr. Neutra.
